Alocasia reginula aka Alocasia Black Velvet
Updated: Aug 13, 2019

Relatively small Alocasia with almost black, heart-shaped leaves look like velvet which have silver-white veins. The Alocasia reginula (little queen) grows around 30-40 centimetres high. Originally found in Malaysia and Borneo. Can be kept as a houseplant or terrarium plant. The Alocasia reginula is slow growing.
Care:
Light:
Place it in a bright spot where it won’t be burned by full sun. A north or east-facing window is ideal.
Temperature:
Keep this alocasia between 15 and 30 ˚C in a protected spot as it is wind sensitive.
Water:
Thoroughly water the soil, but allow it to dry before re-watering. It needs less water than other types of Alocasia and requires relatively high humidity, but don’t spray water on the leaves. Never let the plant sit in standing water.
Fertilising:
Fertilise lightly during the growing season and not at all during winter.
Potting:
Plant it in a well-draining potting media and don’t rush with repotting because it likes to be slightly potbound. Re-pot it after two years.
Propagation:
This plant grows from bulbs
Toxicity:
All of the Alocasias are toxic. Keep away from children and pets.
