Ceropegia Woodii from my collection

Ceropegia Woodii is a very decorative and plant to grow. It has many common names: Sweetheart Vine, Hearts Entangled, String of Hearts, Chain of Hearts, Rosary Plant, Collar of Hearts, Hearts-on-a-String. This plant is a semi-succulent which means it has a high heat tolerance and high light requirement and more tolerant of dry soil than wet. It has pairs of heart-shaped leaves along the trailing stem. The delicate little leaves are dark green and marbled with silvery white on the upper surface and purple on the underside.  The stems can grow around 90-150 cm long. Native to Africa.

Ceropegia woodii needs at least three or four hours of direct sunlight every day. Morning sun is the best.

Average room temperatures are suitable for Ceropegia woodii throughout the year. The minimum temperature for this plant is 15°C.

In the active growth period water sparingly, just enough to make the potting mixture barely moist. Allow the soil to dry out completely between watering. The plant goes dormant in winter, so watering should be even less frequent.

Use a general houseplant fertiliser diluted to half every 3-4 weeks from spring to mid-summer.

Repot when the plant seems root-bound. Add one-third of sand to average potting soil or use cactus mix soil.

The little bead-like pearls on the stems are called tubers and form after the plant has produced small tube-like purple flowers. The tubers will root if the stem touches soil and build another plant.

Ceropegia woodii is non-toxic to dogs, cats or humans.
